GoHighLevel Emails Not Sending? Troubleshooting Checklist

When an email fails, first separate a workflow problem from a sending or delivery problem. They need different fixes.

What to check, in order

  1. Confirm the action ran. Open the relevant contact and workflow execution history. If the email step never ran, investigate the workflow trigger, filters and wait conditions first.
  2. Check the sending identity. Confirm the From address and sending domain are configured for the relevant sub-account. An unverified or misconfigured sender can block reliable sending.
  3. Inspect email status. Look for available send, bounce, rejection or failure information. A recorded send does not prove the message reached the recipient's inbox.
  4. Check authentication. Review SPF, DKIM and DMARC records using the email provider's current instructions. Avoid adding duplicate SPF records.
  5. Check contact permissions. Confirm the recipient address is valid and any opt-out, unsubscribe or suppression rules are respected. Never bypass a recipient's consent choice.
  6. Send a controlled test. Use a permitted test address, document the timestamp and compare workflow history with provider delivery logs.

Common questions

Is this always a workflow issue?

No. The workflow can execute correctly while the email service rejects or filters a message.

Should I resend to every contact?

No. Diagnose the failure first to avoid duplicate messages or sending to unsubscribed recipients.
