DUPLICATE AUTOMATIONS
GoHighLevel Workflow Firing Multiple Times? Find the Duplicate Trigger
A contact receiving the same message twice is a different problem from a workflow not running at all. Find which event caused each enrollment before changing re-entry settings.
Diagnose the problem
- Compare the enrollment timestamps. Open the workflow's Enrollment History and Execution Logs. Identify whether the same contact entered twice, or whether one enrollment executed two send actions.
- Review all workflow triggers. A form submission may also add a tag. If both Form Submitted and Contact Tag Added are triggers, the same business event can satisfy two paths. Compare trigger conditions before deleting either one.
- Check re-entry and its exceptions. HighLevel documents that Allow Re-entry permits a completed or removed contact to enter again. Appointment- and invoice-based triggers can enroll a contact per new appointment or invoice regardless of this toggle.
- Look for a second published workflow. Search for copied or legacy workflows that send the same email, SMS or document. Duplicate sends do not always originate in the same workflow.
- Inspect changes and loops. Check whether one workflow adds a tag, changes a pipeline stage or updates a field that another workflow listens for. Record the order of events.
- Test safely with one contact. Reproduce once with a test contact. Confirm only the intended trigger and action fire. Avoid bulk resending to customers.
Common questions
Will switching off re-entry stop every duplicate?
No. Multiple triggers or separate workflows may still cause repeated actions, and appointment or invoice triggers have documented exceptions.
What evidence should I save?
The contact ID, event time, workflow name, enrollment record and relevant execution log entries.
